I asked myself what difference Prerana made to the children and realised that the answer was complicated. There are things Prerana do but that we didn't see such as visiting schools to count missing children, testifying in court, informing police of cases of maltreatment, imminent danger and children in need of rescue. I know as well that with limited capacity, some children cannot be taken in and will be referred, sometimes taken to a more appropriate organisation. But for me the biggest impact was the difference in the looks on the faces between the children when they are in the red light area and when they are in the care of this magnificent group. The children who have passed through Prerana's care are clean, well presented, confident, educated, intelligent and with the resources they need to escape from the red light area. Prerana has given these children what they were missing - hope.
